First Work Conference of Joint Working Group of ISO/TC274

Domestic Technical Counterparts Was Held

As the head of Joint Working Group of ISO/TC274 Domestic Technical Counterparts, China Solid State Lighting Alliance organized its first working meeting in Beijing on July 23, 2013. The meeting was chaired by Li Dongfang from t International Cooperation Department of Standardization Administration of the People´s Republic of China (SAC). Representatives of major organization under the joint working groups participated in the meetings, including deputy head of the group, Beijing Lighting Research Institute (BLRI) and group members, such as China Illuminating Engineering Society (CIES) and Shenzhen Academy of Metrology and Quality Inspection. In the meeting, representatives reported the first ISO/TC274 annual meeting, analyzed the problems and difficulties of China's participation in ISO/TC274 international standardization activities, and discussed the future work plans of technical counterparts in joint working group.

Li Dongfang pointed out that the joint working group was an innovation for our country's participation in ISO / IEC international standardization activities. As the demand to actually participate in international standardization activities increases, Joint Working Group of ISO/TC274 Domestic Technical Counterparts comprised of all stakeholders and the full participation in international standardization activities would help to activate all stakeholders' potential, and use multiple resources to enhance the capacity and level of our country's participation in international standardization activities. The new "Regulation for Participation in International Standardization Activities of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)" was about to be released. The joint working group shall actively organize and manage all stakeholders to participate in the ISO/TC274 international standardization activities substantively in strict accordance to the requirements and provisions of the document. The head of the group shall work out the internal working procedure for joint working group so that all parties could carry out the work effectively.

Through the innovation of working mechanism, full participation could be achieved among the industry, including the participation of enterprise, testing organizations, research institutions, universities and other interested parties. Doctor Guo Cheng from Beijing Solid State Lighting Technology Promotion Center reported the first ISO/TC 274 membership meeting held in Berlin on July 2. Ruanjun，Deputy Secretary-General of CSA, reported the working suggestions for the joint working group.

Representatives also had a heated discussion on the issue of coordinated and complementary relationship between CIE and ISO/TC274, building an open and transparent mechanism for the common consensus, and ensuring the participation of national experts and institutions. Next, under the leadership of the head and support from the deputy head as well as all group members, a working plan with common consensus and full participation would be prepared. The group members shall stick together as one to promote the development of international standardization

Joint Working Group of ISO/TC274 Domestic Technical Counterparts would serve Chinese lighting industry with technological innovation, and establish an exchange mechanism for international and domestic standards. It would coordinate different parties in the industry, such as enterprise testing agencies, research institutions, universities and other relevant organizations to participate in international standardization.
